Life drawing

After a couple weeks of life-drawing I think im starting to get some results that I can show. Here’s one of them.
It was a twenty-min pose. The model didn’t really have giant ants on his back I just added that during the pose breaks. I dont think he would have managed to keep the pose for that long if he did have ants on him.

Nino Simpson

Go make your own at http://www.simpsonsmovie.com/

If you work out how to export it then let me know because I had to print screen to get Simponised Nino out.

crayons + wacom = …wayons?

Pixar at ACMI

Pixar at ACMI just a week after MIAF? ACMI is on a roll and lets hope it stays that way.
It looks like theres a lot of behind the scene kind of stuff on for this event. For those who watch all the bonus stuff on the Pixar DVDs will probably enjoy this…because it’s shown on bigger screens.

MIAF

Probably the best thing happens to Melbourne every year.

bitten

The short film that I am working on, Bitten, has grown a little bit so go have a look. The one month that I budgeted to make this film was pretty unrealistic. So, I’ve extended it to about 3-4 months. That should take the pressure somewhat off my back. The film is getting to a stage where the work is getting too technical and it’s starting to annoy me. I like experimenting with ways to get the look that I am after but spending too much time on figuring stuff out just for that little effect could bite you in the bum later.

bat+sheep

I thought it would be a good idea to make a pre-short short. Flower-foe is my first animated short film, I thought it’d be nice to test out all the things I’m planning to try on flower-foe on sort of like a guinea pig film. Bat+sheep is this guinea pig.

FF is now on hold for 1 month exactly until i complete B+S. Thats how long I plan to play with this new film of mine. It’s not uncommon for studios do the same thing before starting a film so I thought why cant an individual do the same?

So far I’ve been making huge leaps on its progress. Since it’s only an experimental film I tried not to spend too much time with the planning. It’s in the same style as FF which made concepting it a lot quicker than trying to come up with a different art direction. I’m already on the animatic for it and soon I’ll be ready to start modeling and it’s only been a couple of days since I thought of this idea. It’s really made me excited because I can do anything with this film and not be disappointed with the results. It’s a a good way of finding out what I’m able to do when it’s FFs turn.

I told a friend that it’s like doing a side-quest in Zelda. Zelda may collect items on the side-quests that might help him later defeat bosses easier. I think that’s the best explanation I can come up with why I’m doing another film when I haven’t even finished this one.

A good week

It has been a good week. Finished work last week, moved out of my house and back to my parents’ in Melbourne . I have less privacy here, less money, less room to work with, but more time to work on my film and more sleep. Also started life drawing sessions down at this place in fitzroy – the Artery. It is hands down the best studio I’ve ever drawn at…out of the two that I’ve drawn at, and it being the second…where the first wasn’t really a studio but more like a classroom.

Took a walk down around my area with my borrowed camera. It was a great way to get background ideas.

Been playing with the idea of a villain for my short.

Developing story

I drew some stuff today that have made me think more about the story for flower foe. I’m a little bit worried that I’m spending too much time working with it for this short. It’s been changing so much from the initial story. There are still a lot of clunks in it that I need to fix.

I’m not sure if I should start on other pre-production tasks while I sort that out because if I do, the things I do might be useless later. Like the character I modeled and rigged. I’ll need to spend the next few weeks on: refining story, writing a final script, finalising storyboard.
